On the occasion of World AIDS Day (1 December), Ciné-ONU screened ‘PILI‘, winner of the audience award and a special mention from the jury (screenplay category) at the 2017 Dinard British Film Festival
In rural Tanzania, Pili works the fields for less than $2 a day and struggles to keep her HIV-positive status secret. Offered the chance to rent a sought-after market-stall, Pili is desperate to have it. But with only two days to get the deposit, she must make difficult decisions with ever-deepening consequences. Based on the real-life stories of the women in the film, which features only one trained actor and 70% of the cast living with HIV. Produced by Sophie Harman and directed by Leanne Welham.
