In Fire at Sea, acclaimed director Gianfranco Rosi turns his attention to the Sicilian island of Lampedusa and the effects of the ongoing migrant crisis on the tiny community. Shown from the perspective of the island’s inhabitants, the film uses their lives as a narrative tool through which to explore this global crisis. The documentary contrasts the tough but essentially content settled conditions of the Lampedusans with the terrifying uncertainty experienced by the incomers.
