Il Segretario Generale è gravemente preoccupato per la drammatica escalation di eventi che si è verificata a Beirut nelle ultime 24 ore.
Questa spirale di violenza deve cessare ora e tutte le parti devono fare un passo indietro. Il popolo libanese, il popolo israeliano e l’intera regione non possono permettersi una guerra totale.
Il Segretario Generale esorta le parti a impegnarsi per la piena attuazione della risoluzione 1701 (2006) del Consiglio di Sicurezza e a tornare immediatamente alla cessazione delle ostilità. Ribadisce inoltre il suo appello per un immediato cessate il fuoco a Gaza e per il rilascio di tutti gli ostaggi detenuti.

Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General – on Lebanon

The Secretary-General is gravely concerned by the dramatic escalation of events in Beirut in the last 24 hours.
This cycle of violence must stop now, and all sides must step back from the brink. The people of Lebanon, the people of Israel, as well as the wider region, cannot afford an all-out war.
He urges the parties to recommit to the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 (2006) and immediately return to a cessation of hostilities. He also reiterates his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages held there.
