Jazz. Nordic Countries. International Jazz Day 2024 30 April will be hosted for the first time in the African continent, by the city of Tangier, Morocco.
The celebration will culminate in an All-Star Global Concert at Tangier’s Palace of Arts and Culture. It will feature performances by an international roster of artists from all corners of the globe. They include master Gnawa musician Abdellah El Gourd of Morocco, and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and iconic pianist Herbie Hancock. The concert will be livestreamed on April 30 on YouTube and Facebook.
Jazz day in the Nordic countries
In the Nordic countries there will be several concerts to celebrate the International Day of Jazz. In Oslo there will be two different concerts. Swinging in history and International Jazz Day celebration with Cuban violinist, singer and composer Yeisy Rojas.
The jazz band Mikko Sarvanne Garden celebrates jazz day in Oulo in Finland. In Landskrona in Sweden, in addition to a live band there will be a live transmission of the concert in Tangiers.
Meanwhile, Reykjavík, Iceland is very lively on International Jazz Day since no less than 9 concerts are scheduled.
Jazz as an educational tool
The International Day is intended to raise awareness of the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for empathy, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people
Among participants in the concert in Tangier are Singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, bassist Marcus Miller and saxophonist Femi Kuti and Magnus Lindgren as well as the host, actor Jeremy Irons.
